Wireline Services
Well Intervention by means of Wireline is a cost efficient method of reaching operational objectives. The tools and equipment are conveyed into wells either through an "open hole" without surface pressure, or through special pressure retaining equipment which allows the toolstrings to be conveyed into live wells with full production pressure.
Wireline Services encompass slick, braided and electric line, plus specialised services such as H2S service and heavy-duty units for fishing. Typical operational objectives are:
- Mechanical operations: setting plugs
- Well clean up: removal of sand or debris
- Explosive services: punching or perforation
- Data acquisition: production logging
In accordance with the increasing use of subsea technology as a field development solution, Aker Solutions has performed extensive engineering, enabling our Well Intervention Services to be supplied cost effectively from light intervention vessels.
Wireline Tractor Services
In the last decade a world-wide increase in extended and horizontal production well drilling has challenged traditional Wireline methods. Aker Solutions is in the lead of developing state-of-the-art cost effective intervention methods for these high angle wells. The Wireline Tractor product line goes under the registered trademark PowerTrac®.
The surface-controlled PowerTrac® Advance™ is run as an integral part of the toolstring conveyed on wireline into oil- and gas wells. The tractor is electrically powered from the surface through conductors inside the wireline, and energised when gravity no longer overcomes friction forces in the well. PowerTrac® Advance™ may be remotely operated from an office onboard the installation, or even operated from an on-shore location.
By attaching PowerTrac® Advance™ to the toolstring all typical Wireline work can be performed in horizontal well sections, disregarding the need for heavier conveyance methods such as coiled tubing, snubbing or drillstring.
Examples of tractor conveyed operations:
- Perforation (please click on link to learn more)
- Plug setting and retrieval
- Data acquisition
Wireline Logging Services
A typical objective for a Well Intervention is to perform logging operations. The above gives an example of one of our casing inspection services. Corrosion, scale and mechanical damage to the production tubing may cause the need for recompleting the well. A Multifinger Caliper is used to accurately measure the internal diameter of the production tubing, thereby giving the customer background data when making decisions.
Aker Solutions specialises on Wireline Logging Services in cased hole. Typical services are:
- Production Logging: for production optimisation
- Casing Inspection: to verify status of tubing
- Plug Setting: zonal isolation, water control
- Perforation: open undrained production zones
All logging data is quality controlled before presented to the customer. The quality control is being performed by highly experienced onshore logging supervisor in the operation planning centre.
Compact surface panels
Compact surface panels provide easy mobilisation to offshore installations. The logging tools are conveyed on wireline to target depth. An operating voltage is supplied by the power panel, and logging data is sent up to be stored and interpreted.
