Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH was awarded the State Prize Clean Technology Austria 2012. The company has developed the first hydraulic hybrid drive for cranes and construction machinery.
On Tuesday evening the State Prize Clean Technology Austria awards ceremony took place in the Vienna Hofburg for the third time. Since 2008 the State Prize is awarded jointly by three ministries every two years and is becoming more and more popular. A total of over 200 projects – more than twice the amount of 2010 – were entered in 2012. This provides striking evidence of Austria’s innovative strength in the environment and energy technology sector. The best entries in each category were honoured with a State Prize by the awarding ministers.
Prize in the category “Energy & Efficiency” was won by Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH for the patented hybrid drive.
The competition for the State Prize Clean Technology Austria entitled “Energy & Efficiency”, awarded by Austria’s minister for economic affairs Reinhold Mitterlehner, was won by Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH. The world leader in the mobile harbour crane sector convinced the jury with Pactronic® – the first hydraulic hybrid drive for cranes and construction machinery which achieves increased handling performance with reduced fuel consumption. This drive system is characterized by a secondary energy storage device (accumulator). The accumulator is charged by regenerating the reverse power while lowering the load and using the surplus power of the primary energy source.
The Minister for Economic Affairs Reinhold Mitterlehner presented the prize and emphasized: “Having built up its know-how for many years Liebherr has now converted it into a ground-breaking innovation so setting new standards especially in energy efficiency. Eco-innovations safeguard qualified jobs, make Austria more competitive on the international market and are a key factor for achieving energy and climate objectives,” says Mitterlehner.
