Schlumberger Integrates Coiled Tubing with Production Services

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

ACTive PS Service Increases Efficiency and Enhances Production

FLORENCE, Schlumberger today announced at the 2010 SPE Annual Technology Conference and Exhibition the release of ACTive PS* integrated coiled tubing (CT) production service.

This new service couples real-time fiber-optic telemetry with existing, advanced wireline production logging tools. ACTive PS optimizes work efficiency, early production and minimizes environmental impact of equipment foot print at the well site.
“The reservoir and production measurements are provided during the intervention, where they matter most,” said Patrick Schorn, president, Schlumberger Well Services. “By providing these measurements during the intervention additional reservoir data can easily be obtained and used to optimize stimulation treatment.”

ACTive PS has been successfully deployed in Mexico, the United States and Saudi Arabia. In the Barnett shale, ConocoPhillips employed ACTive PS to understand the fracture/completion program effectiveness on their dry gas wells using combined distributed temperature survey (DTS) and production logging technologies. ACTive PS allowed ConocoPhilips to eliminate one downhole trip per well, resulting in reduced risk, cost and non-productive time.

The ACTive PS service uses a CT string incorporating fiber-optic for telemetry and a 111⁄16-in bottom hole assembly (BHA), which powers and communicates with the conventional production logging. Data is sent wirelessly from the working reel to the acquisition and interpretation computer on surface, eliminating the need for an on-location surface logging unit. Because the technology is totally self-contained, only the ACTive PS BHA and a production logging engineer are required on location with the CT unit.

ACTive PS is available for coiled tubing production logging, including PS Platform* new-generation production services platform and Flow Scanner* horizontal and deviated well production logging system jobs, well stimulation, and onsite production evaluation and optimization.

Schlumberger Introduces New Downhole Reservoir Testing System

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Quartet System Delivers High-Resolution Pressure Measurements and Representative Fluid Samples for Safer and More Efficient Reservoir Testing

Schlumberger announced today at the 2010 SPE Annual Technology Conference and Exhibition the release of the Quartet* high-performance downhole reservoir testing system. This complete downhole testing system allows operators to isolate, control, measure and sample all in a single run.

″Now operators can test more safely and efficiently for an altogether better reservoir test,″ said Devan Raj, marketing and technology manager, Schlumberger Testing Services. ″The deep-reading, high-resolution pressure measurements and representative reservoir fluid samples help operators prove reservoir potential and reach a better basis for their decisions.″
During exploration in the Gulf of Venezuela, an operator needed to perform a series of downhole tests on its high-rate gas wells to determine reservoir properties. With the Quartet system’s single-trip efficiency, the operator saved four days of rig time while safely achieving its test objectives.

The Quartet downhole assembly is one-fourth the length of conventional configurations. The system offers a range of advantages, including 35% lower tool operating pressure, 90% less nitrogen, 50% fewer seals and 60% fewer connections. In addition, drill collars and slips joints are eliminated from the downhole string.

The Quartet system consists of four technologies engineered specifically for reservoir testing: CERTIS* high-integrity reservoir test isolation system, IRDV intelligent remote dual valve, CQG* crystal quartz gauge and SCAR* inline independent reservoir fluid sampling.

Lane Energy Poland and Schlumberger Deliver First Shale Gas Well in Baltic Basin

Monday, September 20th, 2010

Well Drilled in Record Time and Second Well Underway

WARSAW —Lane Energy Poland and Schlumberger today announced an update on the first exploration shale gas well evaluating the shales in the Baltic Basin of Northern Poland. In addition, drilling on a second well in the area is at an advanced stage.

The drilling program operated by Lane Energy constitutes an important milestone for shale gas in Europe. Łebień LE1 is the first of two-wells that Lane is drilling in the onshore Baltic Basin region. Total depth was reached in record time, including coring operations of the target shales. Drilling on the second well, Legowo LE1, began on August 27 and operations are proceeding on schedule.

“This is the first time exploration wells have been drilled in the Baltic Basin of Northern Poland specifically to evaluate the potential of shale gas production. Lane is delighted that the mix of locally provided and Schlumberger-managed services helped to deliver the first well under budget and under time,” said Kamlesh Parmar, Lane Energy Poland Country Manager.

Schlumberger continues to deliver a range of services for both wells, including drilling, logging and cementing. M-I SWACO, a Schlumberger company, is providing drilling fluid services. All services were completed on the Łebień LE1 well with no NPT and in full compliance with local and international standards.

“This is a landmark project in the development of shale gas in Europe,” said Chris Hopkins, vice president, Unconventional Resources, Schlumberger. “To ensure its success, we assigned a local project manager who was responsible for the seamless integration of all services on site. With ready access to the extensive shale gas expertise already gained by Schlumberger colleagues in North America, we were able to apply the knowledge and lessons learned in other plays to best affect results delivered here.”

Schlumberger will be providing Completion, Stimulation and Well Testing Services during the production evaluation phase of the operations. The Completion program has been submitted to the Polish Mining Authority and Completion operations are scheduled for October
