The Karachaganak Petroleum Operating Company or KPO, a joint venture comprised by ENI and the BG Group along with participation from Chevron and Lukoil carried out the first two runnings of TenarisHydril Blue™ Dopeless®connections for the gas condensate field in northwestern Kazakhstan.
The customer chose to use Dopeless® technology due to its operational benefits when used in extreme cold weather applications. TenarisHydril premium connections coated with Dopeless® technology eliminate the need to apply both storage and running compounds. Applying Dopeless® technology in the controlled mill environment takes away the need to apply and clean dope and running compound in the field, which can often freeze in sub-zero temperatures. Minimizing the need for these substances also makes operations cleaner and decreases risks of accidents on the rig floor.
TenarisHydril Blue™ technology is renowned for its excellent sealing capacity. For KPO, these connections were the perfect match for the project’s deep, high-pressure wells.
A total of 650 joints with Dopeless® technology were run without rejections. Two local field service specialists were on-site to supervise the running of the newly introduced technology. They also shared knowledge with local running and third-party services crews to build their technical skills and prepare them for future runnings of Dopeless®technology.
Also, to better serve KPO and other E&P companies operating in the Pre-Caspian basin, Tenaris has established a field services base in Aksai.
