Welcome to the 8 th issue of ROGTEC oil and gas magazine, the leading upstream magazine for the Russian and Caspian oil and gas sectors.

The last few months, as always, have been interesting in the Russian and central Asian oil and gas markets. After many years and many billions of dollars, we have seen Sakhalin 1 come to near full production. This is great news for both the operators and the Government alike, and we all look forward to monitoring the next stages of the project.

In this issue we have our first of two articles by A V and VD Sorokin from Omega-k looking at the informational structure of in-situe oil. Our exploration content focuses on a piece written by Bill Kamps of Tsunami development, on the techniques of reducing the acquisition footprint for prestack migration. We also speak with Jean Louis of CGGVeritas who is the VP for Business Development in Russia.

Starting our drilling mud series we look at mud conditioning with horizontal wells. ROGTEC Oil and Gas magazine looks at optimized drilling performance with Koos Koole, a well engineer, from SPD, Salym Petroleum Developments, a Shell JV. StatoilHydro look at their through tubing drilling operations for us.

James Lea, of ROGTEC´s editorial board, and Lynn Rowlan of Echometer, look at beam pumping systems and optimization. John Ely of Ely and Associates continues his series of articles looking at hydraulic fracturing. Finally David Wood and Saeid Mokhatab, of ROGTEC oil and gas magazines editorial board, look at the LNG lessons than can be learned and transferred from the StatoiHydro project Snohvit.
