    Yamal Oil and Gas Fields Development: Attracting Advanced Technologies and Investments

    On June 6-8, 2012, Salekhard welcomed the participants to the International Conference and Exhibition Yamal Oil and Gas 2012. Yamal Oil and Gas Fields Development: Attracting Advanced Technologies and Investments. This event was organised by Vostock Capital and supported by the Government of the YNAD. The intensive programme of the Conference attracted over 200 participants: best industry experts, high profile politicians, oil and gas sector leaders, and leading manufacturers of equipment and technologies for oil and gas fields’ development. Delegates from many countries, including Japan, the USA, the UK, Spain, Sweden, India, France, Finland, and the Netherlands came to take part in the event. The Dutch delegation met with Vladimir Vladimirov, First Deputy Governor of YNAD the day before the Conference, to discuss potential cooperation within implementing Dutch Best Practice in oil and gas fields’ development.

    The Ist International Conference “Yamal Oil and Gas 2012” was sponsored by Baker Hughes, Repsol, Sberbank, Stec.Com, and Russian Helicopters.

    The grand opening ceremony took place on June 7th, in Salekhard’s Culture and Business Centre, with welcome addresses delivered by the Vladimir Vladimirov, First Deputy Governor of YNAD, Genady Shmal, President of Russian Union of Oil and Gas Producers, and Oksana Fedoseyeva, Managing Director of Vostock Capital.

    The session on Yamal LNG project with the presentation from Gleb Luxemburg,  General Manager at Yamal LNG, and the session on the competitive transport infrastructure as a major development factor for the region, where the keypresentation came from Sofya Katkova, Project Leader at Morstroytekhnologiya, got the most attention and response. Project Delta Group, Wagenborg Offshore BV, Van Oord, and Witteven+Bos presented innovative technologies of arctic field development, which also attracted considerable interest.

    The environmental session, together with the discussion on associated petroleum gas flaring, addressed some of the vital development issues facing the region. Natalya Kolesnikova, Deputy Head of Rosprirodnadzor, and Alexey Knizhnikov, Oil and Gas Programme Coordinator at WWF Russia, gave comprehensive presentations on environmental issues.

    This year’s Conference Yamal Oil and Gas 2012 has been highly successful in establishing a forum for a constructive exchange between businesses, public authorities and the research community to solve the development problems facing the region. In his address to the delegates YNAD Governor Dmitry Kobylkin emphasised that “This unique forum will add a new and bright chapter in the history of the oil and gas partnership. It has been instrumental in promoting interesting and useful communication and sharing of experiences. I have no doubt whatsoever that the participants and guests of the forum will take home with them unforgettable impressions as well as fond memories of their stay in  Yamal land.” The remarkable success of this event has launched a tradition of annual conferences on Yamal Oil and Gas in YNAD.
