20,000 Sercel UNITE Cable-Free Channels Deployed on US Survey
CGGVeritas has increased its cable-free acquisition capacity to 20,000 Sercel UNITE channels on a large, 1,500-square-mile multi-client 3D land seismic survey it is currently acquiring in Pennsylvania, USA.
Whereas most land seismic data acquisition systems require a physical connection to retrieve data, UNITE integrates a licence-free wireless connection so that data can be harvested remotely up to 1000m from the receivers. By deploying UNITE, CGGVeritas can use helicopters and pickup trucks on the extremely rugged survey terrain to retrieve the data at any time as well as benefit from considerable flexibility around numerous potential land permitting issues.
A wireless network has also been set up on a strategic selection of the UNITE channels so that their data are transmitted in real time to the central recorder to ensure a continuous quality control of the survey and avoid shooting blind.
Mark Amelang, VP, Marketing & Customer Relations, Land, CGGVeritas, said: “Real-time QC is critical because it lets you know that everything is working properly, eliminating the unnecessary risk of shooting blind and ultimately saving time and effort, especially when shooting over 1,500-square-miles. This is a huge advantage compared to other systems on the market.”
Pascal Rouiller, CEO, Sercel, said: “The decision by CGGVeritas to increase to 20,000 UNITE channels on its Pennsylvania multi-client survey further confirms Sercel’s success in addressing the cable-free market. UNITE’s unique high-speed, long-range wireless capability improves quality control by providing wireless harvesting and real-time data transfer.”
