The event opening ceremony took place in Hall No. 1, where the participants heard the forum opening speeches delivered by the following individuals
1. Event Organizer Opening Speech – Paul Seed, Director, TMG Worldwide
2. RDCR 2016 Keynote Address – Rob Tinkhof, Well Engineering Manager, Salym Petroleum Development B.V.
3. JSC NC KazMunayGaz – Murat Abdigaliyev, Director of Drilling and Well Services. Drilling development at JSC NC KazMunayGaz, and the 2nd KDR, Kazakhstan Drilling Roundtable as a special focus
4. Gazpromneft NTC – Georgy D. Sadetsky, Head of Drilling and Downhole Department and Alexey Cherepanov, Project Manager, Drilling and Downhole Department
In his welcome speech, Paul Seed underlined the critical importance of the conference. He talked about the key challenges currently facing the Russian oil and gas sector – in particular the EU/US sanctions, the dramatic fall of the Russian ruble against the US dollar and of course the low oil price. He went on to say that in order to emerge stronger from the current crises, businesses should not waste the opportunity to maximize their attendance at the RDCR. He reminded all delegates that the forum was not a platform to discuss private issues of payment, but to foster a more streamlined way of doing business and discuss the implementation of the latest technology and best practices that help drive efficiency in the Russian drilling sector.
Rob Tinkhof commended the organizers on the large amount of delegates at the 4th RDCR and began by saying that the current low oil price similar, and even a little bit higher, than the global average over the last 50 years.
He also opined that the industry had become greedy on the record oil prices that we have experienced over the last 5 to 10 years. During the rest of the keynote Rob talked about the need for companies to focus on factors that are in their control, including driving efficiency, becoming leaner, streamlining relationships between operators and contractors as well as investing in staff. He agreed with the Paul Seed that the industry would indeed recover, and companies should keep one eye on opportunities that would come with this, including arctic and shale development.
Murat Abdigaliyev presented on the drilling plans for JSC NC KazMunayGas, and the successes achieved by their subsidiaries and affiliates from 2013-2016. He went on to talk about the opportunity fro Russian companies in Kazakhastan and what specifc drilling challenges the national compnay are facing. He finished by talking about the 2nd KDR (Kazakh Drilling Roundtable, a sister forum of the RDCR in Kazakhstan) and its specific features. The 2nd KDR will be held on September 16th, 2016, in Astana and is organized as a partnership between TMG Worldwide and JSC NC KazMunayGas.
Georgy Sadetsky and Alexey Cherepanov noted in their presentation that Gazprom Neft would continue its work on the transition to separate servicing method, to be applied in their work with contractors. He mentioned that they find this to be the most efficient method, while the extension and improvement of partner relations would enable them to provide more benefits – both for the customer and for the contractor.
After the opening ceremony, the delegates split into the two separate technology halls, where the roundtable technology sessions were due to start.
Hall No.1 was dedicated to drilling equipment and operations and was scheduled as follows:
