  • 80 Wells Will Be Drilled in Kazakhstan in 2024 to Search for Oil

According to Vice Minister of Energy Askhat Khasenov, it is planned to drill 80 prospecting and exploration wells in Kazakhstan in 2024, a Kazinform agency correspondent reports.

He explained that, given the annual decline in oil production at the fields of the Kyzylorda region, in 2024, drilling of a deep exploratory well will begin in the Turgai-Paleozoic area with a depth of 5.5 thousand meters in order to discover promising oil and gas structures. Also in 2024, an exploratory well will be drilled at the Abay offshore structure in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea.

    — Today, the amount of investment in geological exploration in 2023 amounted to 152.4 billion tenge, which is 12% more than in the previous year (135.7 billion tenge in 2022). In general, investments in geological exploration are expected to reach 200 billion tenge annually,” said Askhat Khasenov.

He added that issues are being considered regarding the start of drilling deep wells at the Karaton subsalt site (Karaton Operating LLP, depth 5.5 thousand meters), Adai block (Ocean Petroleum LLP, depth 6.9 thousand meters), Maksat structure ( Firm ALMEX PLUS LLP, depth 6.2 thousand meters), the Sai-Utes section (SINOPEC branch, depth 5.25 thousand meters) and block A (“5A Oil LLP”, depth 6.9 thousand meters).
