  • A Composite Pumpjack Has Been Created in Russia

It is lighter and more durable than metal ones.

The Higher School of Petroleum (Almetyevsk) has developed a pumpjack with nodes made of composite material. It is lighter than an ordinary metal pumpjack, which oilmen are used to. The new equipment is also less energy-consuming, the news agency Devon learned from a message on the Internet.

The material is also durable and resistant to corrosion. The composite used in the manufacture of pumpjack parts is a unique solution by Almetyevsk scientists.

The specialists carried out measurements of the existing metal equipment by means of ground-based laser scanning. This made it possible to create a 3D model of the equipment for further design and development of drawings.

The prototype of the pumpjack was developed by the design bureau of the Higher School of Petroleum. It is installed on the second floor of the educational and laboratory complex of Almetyevsk State Technological University (ASTU VSHN). At the moment, it is planned to conduct field tests of the pumpjack.
