A New Gas Field Has Been Discovered in the Norwegian Sea
The Haydn exploration well was drilled in the Norwegian Sea near Aasta Hansteen.
A joint venture between OMV (40%), Vaar Energi (30%) and Inpex Idemitsu (30%) has discovered the new Haydn deepwater gas field, about 65 kilometers southwest of the Aasta Hansteen field, and 310 kilometers west of Sandnessjøen, offshore Norway, the Norwegian Maritime Administration said in a statement. The Haydn exploration well was drilled using the Transocean Norge semi-submersible drilling rig.
OMV is the operator of Haydn and co-owner of Aasta Hansteen. OMV and its partners discovered gas in exploration well 6605/6–1 S in the Norwegian Sea, which was the first drilled under a production license 1194. According to preliminary estimates, the size of the discovery at the primary exploration site ranges from 4 million to 12 million m3 of recoverable oil. Discoveries have also been made at two other levels, and an assessment of their size has not yet been carried out.
