A New Gas Production Site Will Be Introduced in Kovykta
Glavgosexpertiza of Russia has issued a positive conclusion for the 13th stage of development of the unique Kovykta gas condensate field. It was put into pilot operation in 2022 and, along with the Chayandinsky field, serves as a resource base for the Power of Siberia gas pipeline and the Amur Gas Processing Plant.
The Kovyktinskoye field is the largest in the eastern part of Russia, with recoverable gas reserves of 1.8 trillion cubic meters and gas condensate of 65.7 million tons. The planned design capacity is 27 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
“Kovykta will produce gas condensate, a valuable chemical raw material. The pipeline and railway infrastructure has also been brought in for its shipment. The design capacity of the Kovykta and Chayandinsky fields is more than 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year. And this is a serious resource base for the Amur Gas Processing Plant, one of the largest and most modern in the world,“ said Tatyana Sinitsyna, an expert at Glavgosexpertiza.
The field‘s development sites are located in Zhigalovsky and Kazachinsko–Lensky districts of the Irkutsk region. As part of the 13th stage, new infrastructure facilities will be built here, which are designed for natural gas production, as well as preparation for the transportation of reservoir gas and condensate.
During the next stage of development of the Kovyktinskoye field, it is planned to equip the site of the integrated gas treatment plant (UKPG–45), as well as six well clusters, a system of field gas pipelines, treatment facilities, power supply lines and other production facilities and structures.
In addition, the total length of access roads in the gas production area will be about 60 km.
