Amphibious All-terrain Vehicles Added to Gazprom Neft’s Arctic Transport Fleet
Gazprom Neft Shelf has expanded its transport fleet with all-season Sherp all-terrain vehicles. The new amphibians are based in the rotational village of Varandey and are intended for rescue services on the coast of the Barents Sea and nearby islands. The use of Sherp all-terrain vehicles amphibious will provide increased mobility to a professional emergency rescue team, which is on duty around the clock in the rotational camp.
Domestic “Sherpas” withstand the harshest conditions in the Arctic. They have high maneuverability, the ability to get out of the water onto the ice, they can move on any surfaces, including stone deposits, snow, sand, swamps. Their carrying capacity is one ton, the maximum speed on land is 45 km / h, in the water when laden – 6 km / h. Special heavy-duty nets allow for the safe transportation of all-terrain vehicles on the external sling of a helicopter to hard-to-reach areas and remote islands.

The Prirazlomnoye oil field is located in the southeastern part of the Barents Sea, 60 km from the coast. Recoverable oil reserves amount to 79 million tons. The license to develop the Prirazlomnoye field is owned by Gazprom Neft Shelf LLC, which is a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft. Commercial development of the Prirazlomnoye field began in December 2013. The new ARCO oil grade first entered the world market in April 2014.
Especially for the development of the field in Russia, the Prirazlomnaya offshore ice-resistant stationary platform (OIRFP) was created, which ensures the execution of all technological operations: drilling, production, storage of oil, preparation and shipment of finished products. The platform is designed for operation in extreme climatic conditions, meets the most stringent safety requirements and is able to withstand maximum ice loads.
Varandey is a rotational village that is used by the company as an intermediate accommodation point for personnel of the Prirazlomnoye project. On the territory of the complex there is a hotel-type hostel for 180 places, household and industrial facilities, a heliport, a health center is equipped and operates.
