Apache Corporation Discovered a New Natural Gas Field in Egypt

The American company Apache Corporation, together with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), has discovered a new natural gas field in Egypt’s Western Desert.
This was reported by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the country.

The discovery was made following the drilling of the exploration well SKAL-1X in the South Kalabsha area. According to preliminary data, the daily production rate is about 26 million cubic feet (approximately 736 thousand cubic metres) of natural gas and 2.7 thousand barrels of gas condensate.

The ministry notes that the project is aimed at increasing domestic production and reducing the cost of energy imports.

The new field is located near existing Apache infrastructure, which reduces capital expenditures and accelerates the start of development. This approach also helps offset natural production decline at mature assets. Apache, which has been operating in Egypt since the mid-1990s, is a leading oil and gas producer in the Western Desert.

It is recalled that the Western Desert is becoming a key region for oil and gas exploration in Egypt due to numerous discoveries and agreements reached in 2025:

  • in November, Khalda Petroleum, a joint venture of EGPC and Apache Corporation, discovered new gas accumulations during the drilling of the Jumana-1 exploration well;
  • in October, it was reported that Khalda Petroleum made several new discoveries, including the SHAI-3X and WD 33J-1X wells;
  • in addition, Agiba Petroleum Company, a joint venture of EGPC and the Italian company Eni, discovered the Dorra-44 field;
  • General Petroleum Corporation (GPC) also announced the discovery of the GPU-1X field in the Abu Senan area;
  • a new discovery in the East Alam El Shawish area was made by Petrosannan Petroleum Company, which drilled the HG34/1 D-1X well;
  • in September, a new gas well South NUT-1 was commissioned with a daily production rate of 50 million cubic feet(above expectations);
  • in July, Agiba Petroleum discovered the Arcadia West field.

In January 2026, it was reported that four new exploration wells in the Western Desert had been successfully drilled, increasing domestic production by 4.5 thousand barrels per day of oil and 2.6 million cubic feet per day of natural gas.
