  • Associated Gas Production in Azerbaijan Decreased by 3% in the First Quarter

Associated gas production in Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2023 amounted to 3 billion 809.09 million cubic meters, which is 2.9% lower than in January-March 2022, a source in the oil and gas market told Interfax-Azerbaijan.

“In the reporting year, 3 billion 809.09 million cubic meters of associated gas were produced from oil fields, of which 985.81 million cubic meters fell to the share of marketable gas (a decrease of 27.3%),” the agency’s interlocutor said.

The share of associated gas in the total volume of gas production in Azerbaijan amounted to 31.3%, the rest – 8 billion 349.62 thousand cubic meters or 68.7% – fell on natural gas (an increase of 5.9%).

As reported, in 2022, the production of associated gas in Azerbaijan amounted to 15 billion 425.16 million cubic meters (an increase of 2.4%), natural gas – 31 billion 318.18 thousand cubic meters (an increase of 8.8%).

The main volume of associated gas production falls on the block of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli fields, most of which is injected back into the reservoirs to maintain pressure, and the rest (ie commercial gas – IF) is transferred free of charge to SOCAR.

The lion’s share of natural gas in Azerbaijan is currently produced from the Shah Deniz field.
