Astana Hosted the 4th KDR Well Engineering Forum (KDR 2018)
The 4th KDR Well Engineering Forum was held on 13th September 2018 at the Palace of Independence in Astana. The main purpose of the event is to exchange experience and technical solutions amongst oil and gas department heads and leading drilling, completion, stimulation and EOR specialists.
The KDR opened with the introduction from the organiser of the event, Paul Seed, Director of TMG Worldwide. In his welcoming speech, Paul highlighted that despite the current high price per barrel, the efficiency of operation and cost saving issues remain important. He also emphasized the need to focus on the wider industry and to implement the latest technologies within drilling and production. Paul also thanked the sponsors of the event, and gave the floor to the keynote speakers.
The opening speech was delivered by Kuanyshbay Nurgaliyev, Managing Director of Oil and Gas Production at JSC NC KazMunayGas (KMG). Mr. Nurgaliyev emphasized that rapid technological, economic and social changes which are dictating the urgent need to revise the working approaches to further develop the oil and gas operating companies. In this regard, he singled out the topics of digitalization of production and introduction of smart technologies to be of particular importance for the participants of the Roundtable. The following speaker, Rob Tinkhof, Deputy General Director at the SRI PDT KMG, addressed the different challenges facing the industry despite the current price per barrel. The speaker highlighted the importance of “working smart” and remembering to “go back to the basics of well engineering”. He emphasized the importance of investing in people, setting common objectives and building effective communication. Bringing up the topic of new technology, the speaker encouraged the industry to be mindful and focus on “fit-for-purpose technology”. Finally, Mr. Tinkhof highlighted the importance of the KDR as a platform for communication and open discussion.
The next keynote speaker, Askhat Duisaliyev, President of KazPetroDrilling, noted the growing number of participants of the KDR. He highlighted the uniqueness of the event in giving the opportunity to build long-term business relationships, identify bottlenecks and interchange knowledge and experience.
The floor was then given to Nurlan Zhumagulov, General Director at the Association of Oil Service Companies of Kazakhstan, who shared the results of the drilling market in 2017. The speaker not only reported the key indicators of the drilling market over the past year, but also explained the innovations in the Code on Subsoil Use. Mr. Zhumagulov also noted the importance of investing in the growth of oil reserves, as the annual oil production is twice the rate of annual growth of reserves.
After the keynote speeches, the event split into halls where three different roundtable sessions were held simultaneously, lasting until the end of the day.
This year, there were more than 200 delegates attending the event from 110 companies, out of which 30 participants delivered presentations to the audience.
All participants of the KDR noted the high level of organization as well as the importance of the event. Delegates, who also participated in the event in the previous years, underlined its significant growth and expansion.
