Bashneft Allocated 5.6 Billion Rubles to Environmental Projects in 2020
ANK Bashneft, which is part of NK Rosneft, in 2020 invested 5.6 billion rubles in environmental projects on the territory of its production activities. The main investments are aimed at implementing programs to improve the reliability of pipelines, safe disposal of industrial waste, increase the useful use of associated petroleum gas, land reclamation, reforestation and replenishment of ichthyofauna.
Preserving the environment for future generations is an integral part of Rosneft’s corporate culture and activities. The company aims to achieve leadership positions in minimizing environmental impact and sustainability of production.
Due to the systematic development of the program to improve the reliability of pipelines in the main oil production region – Bashkortostan, in 2020 Bashneft achieved a decrease in pipeline failures by 11% compared to the previous year, 309 kilometers of field pipelines were replaced.
As a result of the implementation of the gas program, Bashneft ensured a high level of rational use of associated petroleum gas in Bashkortostan – up to 96% (with a standard of at least 95%), and at the largest in the republic, the Arlanskoye field, this figure increased to 99%. In 2020, as part of the program, a reconstructed power plant was put into operation in the Duvansky district of Bashkortostan, thanks to which an additional 750 thousand cubic meters were involved in the production turnover. m of associated petroleum gas per year.
In 2020, Bashneft processed more than 155 thousand tons of oily waste. The recycling process is organized at specialized sites using modern technologies that have passed the state ecological expertise and are the safest for the environment. In addition, in 2020 Bashneft reclaimed more than 1,500 hectares of land on the territory of oil fields development in Bashkortostan.
In the field of oil refining, Bashneft in 2020 continued to modernize its key production facilities. In October, an investment agreement was signed between the Republic of Bashkortostan and ANK Bashneft on the construction of a backup process line for an elemental sulfur production unit at the Ufa oil refining complex. The commissioning of the facility will increase the utilization of hydrogen sulfide-containing gas produced by Bashneft-UNPZ during the production of high-quality motor fuels of the Euro-5 ecological standard, as well as Euro-6 with a reduced content of sulfur and other harmful substances.
In 2020, Bashneft stepped up a number of green initiatives aimed at replenishing water resources in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Nenets and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrugs. Bashneft employees released more than 1.2 million fish fry of valuable species into the water bodies of these regions, cleared 5.5 km2 of coastal areas from household waste. Also, Bashkir oil workers planted over 240 thousand spruces and pines on an area of 60 hectares in several districts of Bashkortostan.
Much attention is paid to the organization of constant environmental monitoring near the production facilities of the company. The number of sample analyzes in these territories in 2020 exceeded 145 thousand, which is 6% more than in 2019. Effective environmental control prevents potential risks in the field of environmental protection.
