Bashneft Has Connected Over 8,000 Wells to Its Digital Oilfield System
Bashneft, a subsidiary of Rosneft Oil Company, has integrated 8,100 oil wells into its Digital Oilfield information system. This represents over 70 percent of the company’s total operational well stock in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The system’s advanced solutions—used for the first time at such scale in the oil and gas industry—cover all key production and logistics processes.
With more than 90 years of experience in oil field development, Bashneft was selected as a pilot site for the testing and early implementation of digital solutions in upstream operations. A joint team composed of experts from Bashneft, SIBINTEK (Rosneft’s IT integrator), and the Rosneft Research Institute in Ufa rapidly tested and embedded into business processes a suite of digital technologies, including:
Decision support systems with artificial intelligence (AI) components
Digital twins
3D visualization tools (with over 3,300 facility models)
Software robots
At the heart of the Digital Oilfield is a system of digital twins that replicate real-time processes in oil field development and production, managed by a multidisciplinary Integrated Operations Center. At the Ilishevskoye field test site, the entire production chain—from reservoir to oil delivery point and reservoir pressure maintenance system—is modeled digitally.
Over the five-year implementation period, the project has achieved a 35% reduction in costs related to on-site visits for equipment startup and adjustment.
Following successful pilot testing, Rosneft has begun replicating the project’s most effective algorithms across its operations. For example, at RN-Uvatneftegaz, the company introduced the Sphere 3D information and technology system, which includes:
Over 3,000 digital object models
More than 6,000 transport unit models
The system automatically calculates the optimal operating modes for equipment, making operations more efficient and safer. Sphere 3D is currently being implemented at nine additional Rosneft enterprises.
