Blue Water Shipping: Delivers Rig components to the Caspian Sea
Earlier this year, Blue Water Singapore was awarded the transportation of heavy and bulky rig columns and bracings for a semi-submersible rig from Singapore to Baku, Azerbaijan through the Russian river system.
The full heavy-lift vessel “HHL Lagos” loaded four upper and four lower columns and bracings in early August. The vessel discharged the cargo in Batumi, Georgia, recently.
“Here, we received the cargo on barges chartered in for the Russian river passage into the Caspian Sea. Some of the columns are up to 400 metric tons heavy and over 11 metres in height”, says Florian Pinz, Project Manager from Blue Water Singapore.
The Russian river system and cargo of this size come with challenges that can only be solved with proper engineering solutions that Blue Water’s own naval architects and transport engineers have provided.
“Sometimes it depends on the centimeter. That is why it is so important that we work very closely together locally and globally. Also, our experience from similar projects gives us advantages in terms of planning and completing challenging logistics operations like these. It is extremely important that you have local expertise on your team when the heavy items are to pass through the narrow river”, says Florian Pinz.
The project involves our offices in Singapore, Denmark,Georgia and Azerbaijan.
