Blue Water Shipping: To Deliver Columns for Caspian Semi-sub Drilling Rig
Blue Water Shipping is preparing to transport heavy oil drilling equipment through the Russian Volga-Don river system. The challenging cargo requires the right specialists and expertise.
The transport begins in Singapore. From here, four lower columns/288 t each, four upper columns/511 tons each and four bracings/ 125 tons each will be transported to Mariupol, Ukraine, for transshipment. During the transshipment, Blue Water will supervise all steps of the operation before the transport continues.
“The destination from Mariupol is Baku, Azerbaijan. We plan to transport the cargo through the Russian river system which is quite a challenging project – fortunately we have the in-house experts required with decades of experience located on our own offices in the region to handle the project and give our client the best service and solution possible”, says Jason Goh, Blue Water Shipping’s Regional Managing Director for Asia Pacific.
In addition to the transport, other assignments connected to the project must be solved to make the transport a success.
“There is more to this project than chartering heavy-lift vessels, river barges and tugs to move heavy equipment. We have engineers connected to the project, and we handle all river permissions which are obligatory if you want to use the river system for transport. This often involves communication between several cultures – which further highlights the importance of having local specialists on your team. During the transport, our own HSSE & Q department will ensure that no one is exposed to any danger. This is obviously important for us – but also for our clients. It is fair to say that a project like this requires the right specialists and expertise”, says Thomas Bek, Global Manager for Oil, Energy & Industrial Projects in Blue Water Shipping
