  • BP Begins Production at the Seagull Oil and Gas Field in the North Sea

British BP Plc has begun production at the Seagull oil and gas field in the British part of the North Sea, the company said in a press release.

BP’s partners in this project are Neptune Energy and the Japanese JAPEX.

The field, which was developed by Neptune Energy, is connected to the central oil treatment and pumping point of BP’s integrated Eastern Trough Area Project (ETAP) in the North Sea, which has been operating for 25 years. Thus, to launch Seagull, the company used part of the existing underwater infrastructure.

Seagull is the first field in 20 years to connect to ETAP, the press release noted.

The volume of production at the Seagull field at peak capacity utilization can reach 50 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day.

BP owns a 50% stake in Seagull, Neptune Energy owns 35% of the project, and JAPEX owns 15%.
