China’s CNPC Begins Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields in Tajikistan
Geophysical works in the form of 2D seismic surveys have begun at oil and gas fields in the southwestern regions of Tajikistan. The operations are being carried out by the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), according to the press service of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan.
“2D seismic survey work has started in the southwestern regions of Tajikistan. These operations are being conducted by the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) as part of the Bokhtar project,” the statement reads.
The press service notes that CNPC has been conducting geological and geophysical operations in the southwest of the country since 2024.
“Last year, magnetic and gravimetric surveys were successfully completed over an area of 15,400 square kilometers, with a total cost of 7.4 million US dollars,” the press service reports.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the new phase of 2D seismic surveys will cover an area of 1,017 kilometers, and it is expected to help identify promising drilling locations with scientific justification.
Before the start of operations, a conference was held to mark the launch of this phase of seismic work. During the event, participants were demonstrated the functioning of the instruments and equipment used for 2D seismic surveys and drilling for the first time.
