  • Collaboration The Watchword For Caspian Oil And Gas Industry As Region’s First Technical Conference Gets Underway

SPE hailed as catalyst for technical development of Kazakh oil and gas industry

The Caspian Technical Conference and Exhibition (CTCE), the first technical oil and gas conference ever to take place in the region, got underway in Astana today.

Over the next three days attendees are set to hear from high-profile speakers and panelists and enjoy a packed technical programme, as well as networking with peers and visiting exhibitors showcasing the latest technologies and products.

Hosted by Shell, and held in partnership with the Kazakh Ministry of Energy and KAZENERGY, the aim of the conference is to explore the issues faced by the exploration and production (E&P) industry in Kazakhstan and the broader Caspian region.

Speakers and panelists have been drawn from the highest echelons of government, operators, service providers, advisory firms, and energy research companies, including the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Shell, KAZENERGY, TCO, NCOC, KMG and Schlumberger.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Magzum Mirzagaliyev, vice-minister, Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emphasised the importance of SPE for encouraging the technical development of the oil and gas industry in Kazakhstan.

Keiron McFayden, vice president – JV Excellence, Shell Kazakhstan touched on the importance of collaboration if the industry is going to meet the unique challenges that Kazakhstan presents. Without this, innovation will be slower and less effective.

The success of CTCE will be a barometer of the industry in the Caspian region, with over 500 oil and gas industry professionals expected. The numerous panel and technical sessions will examine Kazakhstan’s long-term technology development strategy, regional technological challenges in oil and gas transportation, local capacity-building and technological innovation and collaboration.
