  • Cubility: Appoints Knut Haga as Chief Technology Officer

Cubility AS, an industry-leading provider of solids control solutions that improve efficiencies and HSE around drilling operations, today announced the appointment of Knut Haga as the company’s new Chief Technology Officer.

Knut’s role will be to manage Cubility’s technology and R&D strategy, taking responsibility for technological development, project management and the company’s innovation pipeline as it looks to replicate the success of its MudCube® technology in other areas of drilling operations. Knut will also be a member of Cubility’s technology supervisory board and will be responsible for communicating the company’s technology vision to key stakeholders, such as partners, investors and employees.

“We are in great position for significant market growth over the next few years and this will only be strengthened by Knut joining the executive leadership team,” said Cubility CEO, Even Gjesdal. With considerable project management experience on successful oil and gas technology applications worldwide, Knut will play a vital role in the company’s future progress.”

Knut Haga continued: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to spearhead Cubility’s technology developments and to build on the success of our flagship solution, the MudCube.

New developments in the pipeline include a system for the handling of oil-contaminated drilling cuttings as well as a number of other IP rights and technology ideas at varying stages of maturity.”

He concludes: “Such innovative technologies will deliver significant value to both the industry and the company’s stakeholders and will drive Cubility’s growth in the coming years.”

Knut joins Cubility on the back of a 25-year career in the oil & gas industry working for a number of leading oil services companies. Knut spent 15 years at Hitec AS culminating in the role of VP of Projects at National Oilwell Norway. He was also Operations Manager and Partner of Hitec Products Drilling AS and held the position of Managing Director at Axon Norway AS during a major restructuring project including a change of ownership. Knut is also well known to Cubility having served as Operations Manager between 2008 and 2012 where he was instrumental in securing support for the MudCube from Norwegian operator, Statoil.

The MudCube provides an alternative to traditional shale shakers with improved operational efficiencies, reduced solids management costs, better mud quality and significant HSE benefits. Since its 2012 introduction to market, the MudCube has been deployed in drilling sites in the North Sea, Middle East, Far East, South America and the US Marcellus Shale Play with its continued growth leading to Cubility setting up expanded operations in Kuala Lumpur and Houston.

Rather than G force-based, vibrating shale-shakers, the MudCube is a vacuum-based filtration system that removes solids from the drilling fluid. The improved separation capabilities leads to better quality mud, fewer chemicals required to maintain its properties, and more mud recycled back to the mud tanks to be reused for drilling. The stable mud properties with low Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) and solids content also results in improved drilling efficiencies on the rig and could decrease Non Productive Time (NPT).

In addition to improved mud properties, there is also less and ‘cleaner’ waste to dispose of and the remote, automated operations of the MudCube and its enclosed system with reduced vibration and noise levels also bring considerable HSE benefits.
