Cumulative Gas Production at Semakovskoye Field Reaches 25 bcm

RusGazAlliance, a joint venture of Gazprom and RusGazDobycha, has produced more than 25 billion cubic metres of natural gas at the Semakovskoye gas field in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YNAO). This was reported by the company’s press service.

RusGazAlliance, the operator of the field, reached this milestone within 39 months since the project launch in December 2022. The company had previously reached 10 bcm of cumulative production in April 2024.

Production is currently carried out as part of Phase 1. According to the company, Phase 2 is planned to be launched in the second quarter of 2026, although it had previously been scheduled for 2027.

Gazprom and RusGazDobycha established RusGazAlliance in 2017 to develop the Parusovoye, Severo-Parusovoye, and Semakovskoye fields in YNAO. Total recoverable reserves of these fields exceed 420 bcm of gas and more than 7 million tonnes of liquid hydrocarbons. The majority of gas reserves are concentrated in the Semakovskoye field, accounting for over 320 bcm.

About the Semakovskoye Field

  • located 450 km northeast of Salekhard in the Tazovsky district of YNAO;
  • discovered in 1971.

It is the first offshore gas field in Russia developed using extended-reach drilling (ERD) wells drilled from shore, as most of the field lies beneath the waters of the Taz Bay in the Kara Sea.

An ERD well with a length of 6,205 m and a deviation ratio of 6.38 has been included in the Russian Book of Records.

Field Development

As part of Phase 1, the following facilities were constructed:

  • 19 production wells;
  • a gas treatment unit (GTPU) with capacity of 7.5 bcm per year;
  • a booster compressor station with capacity of 32 MW;
  • a power plant with capacity of 18 MW;
  • a 122 km gas pipeline connecting the field to Russia’s Unified Gas Supply System.

As part of the second phase, the following work has already been carried out:

  • drilling of the first production well within the development of the second stage of the Semakovskoye field began in June 2023;
  • first gas at the second stage of the field was obtained in November 2023, with flow rates exceeding those of the production wells from the first stage.

In total, it is planned to construct 11 production wells with extended reach (more than 5 km). It is expected that the launch of the second stage will bring the Semakovskoye field to a production plateau of 12 bcm per year.

It was also previously reported that Phase 3, consisting of eight wells, will be launched. Commissioning of the third stage is scheduled for 2035.
