dGB Earth Sciences Appoints Gary Smith as Vice President, Sales & Marketing
dGB Earth Sciences, the leading provider of open source seismic interpretation software to the oil & gas industry, has appointed Gary Smith as its Vice President for Sales & Marketing. Gary’s remit will be to spearhead dGB’s business development opportunities worldwide and support the company’s global expansion activities.

Gary originally qualified as an engineer prior to a 25-year career working in sales & marketing where he held senior management positions for a variety of companies. Positions included VP of Commercial Services at Eurama, a consultancy providing extended sales force capabilities to high-tech companies; Director of Strategic Business at Objectivity, a leader in data management technology; and Director of Strategic Accounts and Managing Director, Northern Europe for QNX Software Systems, providers of real-time operating system software.
dGB has experienced significant growth over the last few years and today provides a host of premium commercial plugins which offer market leading solutions to specialist areas, such as sequence stratigraphy, fluid migration and rock property predictions.
Since September 1, 2009, there have been over 140,000 downloads of its free OpendTect software direct from the dGB web site and the development of a flourishing user community that covers the entire spectrum of geoscientists from academia and research organisations through to private consultants, multinational service firms and E&P companies.
In the academic world, OpendTect has become one of the most commonly used platforms for seismic interpretation research and teaching. Today, there are 3,020 OpendTect academic licences used at 340 universities worldwide.
