  • East Siberian Oil and Gas Company: Begins Development of the Yurubcheno-Tokhomskoye field

The East Siberian Oil and Gas Company (part of Rosneft) drilled the first production well in the Vendian deposits of the Yurubcheno-Tokhomskoye field in the Evenki municipal district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The layers of the Vendian deposits lie on the surface of the most ancient productive Riphean deposits on the planet, which are more than 1 billion years old.

The first production well in the Vendian reservoirs is producing 149 tons of oil per day. The recoverable oil is ultra-light, contains a small amount of sulfur and hydrogen sulfide, tar and paraffins. Due to its unique properties, it is the optimal raw material for advanced processing. The low pour point at -40C allows such oil to be transported through underground pipelines without additional heating and with minimal hydraulic losses.

Oil from the Yurubcheno-Tokhomskoye oil and gas condensate field is comparable in density to Brent oil and lighter than Urals oil, the main Russian export grade. Moreover, the sulfur content in such oil is significantly lower than in both Russian marker grades.

By 2025, it is planned to drill 16 more wells in order to fully study and involve the reserves of the promising Vendian deposits of the Yurubcheno-Tokhomskoye field in commercial development.

The oil-saturated part of the Vendian sediments is located at a depth of more than 2000 meters and is represented by interlayering of terrigenous-carbonate rocks. The unique geological structure – high dissection and low thickness of the reservoir, the presence of caverns, cracks – necessitates the development of the reservoir using seismic-geological analysis during drilling, which significantly improves the accuracy of structural constructions and successfully predicts multiple tectonic faults for optimal placement of the operating well stock.
