Dear Readers,

What a year so far; it has been unprecedented in recent times and there seemed not be a day that went by without another doom and gloom story. In my last note I wrote of the collective ship being steadied by Goverments around the world pumping stimulus money into their various economies. At last green shoots are beginning to appear; two of the Eurozones biggest economies and historically large investors in Russia, France and Germany, have dragged themselves out recession.

As with all industries times have been tough in the oil patch and indeed marketing tends to be one of the first cuts to be made out of any budget.  However, during a recession, the benefits of market awareness through promotion and advertising are the most effective, and therefore maximize the marketing spend, allowing the brave and bold to highlight their market position.

In reality this is the time that companies can gain significant market advantages over their competitors and I would like to thank our advertisers for their continued support through these trying times. I know of some regional publishers who are cutting issues from their program, and indeed combining issues in an attempt to save costs. From my point of view, this is the wrong direction to go and indeed as marketers we need to listen to our own message during these times; ensuring our products, standards and frequency are as high as ever.  In light of this I am pleased to announce that in 2010 we will be launching a new title for the region, repeating our success in forging content partnerships with regional operators, targeted circulation with corporate management and technical decision makers in a well balanced independent publication. More of this to follow on January 2013.

It was good to see a healthy number of companies from around the world participating at the recent Moscow International Oil and Gas Exhibition; showcasing their technology offerings to improve the oil and gas sector in the CIS. The show was also a great success for ROGTEC Magazine; over 6000 copies were distributed and we were proud to be the only regional publication to be in both the exhibitor and conference bags. Following on the exhibition road, we have a busy schedule ahead with ROGTEC Magazine making an appearance at KIOGE, RAO Offshore, Sakhalin, EAGE Geomodel, AAPG, NEVA and Mangistau.

Activity in the region is slowly starting to increase. Rosneft and TNK BP have both upped their tender announcements, with the latter announcing strong financial results for the first two quarters of this year. Indeed, with many projects rolled over to next year companies are gearing up for a significant improvement and uplift in 2010. ROGTEC magazine will continue to cover  the fields, case histories, and provide specific technical articles to show engineers which products to use, mixed with corporate strategy articles to enable good decision making in corporate management.

The down turn has been painful for many companies but the key is how you respond to the challenge.  At ROGTEC it’s a challenge we have embraced and are becoming stronger as a result. What about your organization?  How have you faired and what improvements have you made to ensure success should such a down turn happen again – are you in the strongest position once market strengthens?
