    Dear Readers;

    I hope the start of 2010 has been successful for all of our readers; with the first quarter nearly over the real test will be Q2 and Q3. The signs are positive however and we have certainly seen our regular clients loosening their purse strings to ensure adequate coverage at the summer shows.

    As I wrote in my last note, it is how you come out of these tough times that you are judged and having spoken with a number of industry friends and colleagues, I am glad to hear that many companies have emerged leaner and more efficient. Here at TMG Worldwide, we have launched two new projects during worst period for media companies in a generation. Our Tender Alert Service has seen a great uptake, and our new power generation publication, PowerTec Russia & CIS Magazine, is currently being exhibited at Russia Power in Moscow. Having made the decision to expand during a recession, I believe we are now better placed to serve our clients and will see considerable growth this year as a result.

    At time of going to press, Rosneft are facing an export deadlock following US and UK court injunctions in favor of the bankrupt YUKOS which have made the process of making cash payments to the Russian state-run producer in the West very complex. I am sure this story will unfold during the next few days. One thing is for sure however, the Russian Government will not take this lying down.

    On to this issue and we have a focus on the exploration market in time for our commitments at the EAGE show in St. Petersburg. With the push for hydrocarbon exploration reaching further in to inhospitable areas, ROGTEC discusses the latest exploration hardware advances in this arena with two industry leaders. Our latest contributor, Graham Blackbourne, continues his series on the geology of the west Siberian basin and continuing on with the geology theme, we have a feature on the Volga River Delta on the Caspian Sea

    Moving on to drilling and production, we have Salym Petroleum Development looking at their coiled tubing operations, as well as an interview with SPD coiled tubing specialist FVN. We also have TNK-BP looking at GeoSteering on the Verkhnechonskoye field, followed by Sclumberger discussing the products they supplied to the operator on this specific project.  There is also a feature on Cold Heavy Oil Production and an exclusive interview with Tom Blades, CEO for the Oil and Gas Division of Siemens.

    I hope you enjoy this issue.
