Employers Ordered to Pay Travel Expenses for Shift Workers
Employees working on a rotational basis received a new guarantee. From March 1, 2023, employers are required to pay for travel from the collection point to the place of work and back.
The Labor Code indicates the main difference between shift work and other formats. With it, it is impossible to provide employees with the opportunity to return home every day.
Until March 1, 2023, employers had to deliver shift workers in an organized manner from the collection point to the place of work. But the fare was not regulated in any way. Some companies took care of the costs, and some believed that employees themselves should pay for travel.
Now employees will not incur unnecessary expenses. Employers are required to pay for the travel of shift workers from the collection point to the place of work and back. This amendment is enshrined in Art. 302 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation Federal Law of December 19, 2022 No. 545.
There is one more change. The law enshrined that employers can voluntarily compensate employees for travel from home to the collection point or the location of the company. The amount and procedure for compensation should be specified in the local regulatory act, labor or collective agreement.
The shift method is currently offered by about 54,000 vacancies throughout Russia, according to the press service of the hh.ru recruiting online platform. Of these, 14% are machinists, 13% – drivers, 6% – turners, 5% each – fitters, welders and laborers. The remaining ads are for electricians, packers, PTO engineers and superintendents.
