  • Energistics Unit of Measure V1.0 Standard Release Candidate Available for Public Review

Energistics Unit of Measure Dictionary v1.0 is intended to cover the needs of the oil & gas industry and as such is not an exhaustive list of all units of measure in existence. There are many units used in the medical, culinary, agricultural and other fields which are not relevant and so are not included.

The units in the standard are intended to be units in current use or which would be reasonably expected to be encountered.

The units are oriented toward use in software. The Energistics Units of Meaure work group has generated the unit names, symbols, derived units and conversion factors with an eye towards implementability in software and databases, not so much for other uses like writing academic papers. There are other resources – like NIST 811:2008 – to aid in preparing manuscripts.

Details and supporting documentation are available on the Energistics website.

Feedback on the release candidate should be forwarded as instructed on the website.

Please note that the deadline for comments is close of business, local time, Friday, December 20, 2013.

All other questions and comments are welcome and may be sent to my attention.
