  • ERIELL Group Takes Part in International Webinar on the Future Prospects for Uzbek Gas Production

    On June 23 ERIELL Group took part in an international webinar on the future prospects for gas production in Uzbekistan.

    The webinar – ‘Is Uzbekistan Running out of Gas?’ – was hosted and moderated by international news organisation Natural Gas World with the close support of ERIELL.

    The webinar explored the radical reforms that Uzbekistan has undergone in the years since president Shavkat Mirziyoyev assumed power in late 2016. This includes the easing of conditions for foreign investors in the natural gas industry and the work undertaken to create a more market-driven sector.

    Bakhrambek Ismailov, Head of ERIELL’s Regional Business Unit for Central Asia spoke at the event alongside Bekhzot Narmatov, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Energy on Oil and Gas, and Louis Skyner, a partner at the international law firm Dentons. The event was moderated by Joseph Murphy, Editor in Chief for Natural Gas World.

    Bakhrambek Ismailov, Head of ERIELL’s Regional Business Unit for Central Asia said:

    “The oil and gas sector is one of Uzbekistan’s strategic economic priorities, directly affecting both the future economic development of the country as well as its energy security and independence.

    “Thanks to the State Comprehensive Program for the Implementation of Anti-Crisis Measures in the industry, many problems that have arisen in a number of developed countries have been avoided. Oil and gas enterprises have the opportunity to use their technological, financial and intellectual resources to the maximum extent possible to maintain stable economic growth.

    “In the long term, the fuel industry will focus on the creation of high-tech petrochemical clusters. This will contribute to the development of the production of high-quality products based on the processing of traditional and alternative hydrocarbons as well as alternative fuels based on the processing of solid household waste.”

    The participants discussed:

    • Uzbekistan’s natural gas production and consumption;
    • The future outlook for natural gas production and prospects for the sector;
    • The applications for natural gas in Uzbekistan;
    • The country’s move towards the development of a value-added chain;
    • An increased focus and investment in exploration works; and
    • Uzbekistan’s wider economic and legislative reforms since 2016

    Attendees also learnt about ERIELL’s outlook for the oil and gas sector in Uzbekistan, details of key exploration and production projects that are currently being implemented and the geological challenges that are being overcome at these sites.
