First Well Test Results Obtained at the Karaton Podsolevoy Block
During testing of the first target interval of a deep exploration well at the Karaton Podsolevoy block in the Atyrau Region, a flowing gas influx was obtained. In accordance with the approved work program, further testing of four additional prospective oil and gas–bearing intervals is planned.
It should be noted that drilling of the well began in November 2024 and was completed in December 2025, reaching a final depth of 5,750 meters. Well testing is being carried out under challenging technological conditions, including abnormally high reservoir pressure and the presence of hydrogen sulfide.
Karaton Podsolevoy is one of KMG’s strategic exploration projects aimed at studying deep-lying horizons to expand the country’s resource base. The results of testing the first interval confirm the presence of hydrocarbons.
The Karaton Podsolevoy project is being implemented under the Improved Model Contract (IMC), one of the key reforms in the subsoil use sector introduced by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The IMC has significantly increased the investment attractiveness of complex fields in Kazakhstan. This mechanism provides important regulatory and fiscal incentives, creating favorable conditions for the exploration and development of technically challenging subsoil areas.
