  • Former Baker Hughes in Russia Wants to Produce Rotary Steerable Systems

The OFS Technologies oilfield service company (former Baker Hughes in Russia) plans to launch the production of rotary-steered systems in Russia in early 2025 – equipment that allows you to control the trajectory of the well, said David Gadzhimirzaev, president of the company.

Among the main problems with oilfield equipment in Russia due to sanctions, the head of OFS Technologies singled out rotary steerable systems (RUS), they provide directional drilling. There are many complex elements in this equipment, such as electronics, metals that are resistant to vibration, temperature, and wear.

“We plan to become completely independent in terms of RUS production in 2025. We are analyzing the geography of production location. Most likely, it will be Western Siberia. The production project is currently underway, so I cannot say exactly what the production volume will be. But every year output will grow,” Gadzhimirzaev said in an interview with the Vedomosti newspaper.

When asked when RUS production will start, he explained: “Tentatively at the beginning of 2025. Our own enterprise.”

OFS Technologies Group (former Baker Hughes in Russia) provides oilfield services and equipment for major oil and gas companies. The group was formed in November last year after the President of the Russian Federation approved the transfer of the Russian assets of Baker Hughes to Russian management. The company has production and service facilities in 11 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
