  • From a Small Enterprise to a Diversified Company: Limited Liability Company TMS Group Has Been Operating in the Market for 20 Years

The management company of Limited Liability Company TMS Group celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Any round date is traditionally considered a milestone, providing a reason to reflect on past achievements. While twenty years may not seem like a grand milestone in the conventional sense, it offers a meaningful opportunity to summarize accomplishments and mark a significant phase of growth.

The management company of Limited Liability Company TMS Group, one of the key divisions of the oilfield services holding company TAGRAS, has firmly established itself as a modern and progressive enterprise with a diversified business model in a relatively short period. Today, it is a leading multiprofile producer of products and services for enterprises in the oil and gas industry, machine-building sector, and pipeline systems.

    Centralization, Order, Efficiency

The creation of TMS Group was driven by the need to increase the efficiency of workshops for the maintenance and repair of oilfield equipment, which were previously part of the oil and gas production departments of a major oil company. Each department had its own approach to these operations, leading to discrepancies in results, resource use, timelines, and quality.

The logical solution was to unify these workshops into a centralized structure to standardize performance.

“The task was not only to centralize and organize operations but also to improve productivity through optimization of business processes and a unified approach—achieving more with existing resources,” explains Anvar Yarullin, Director of the Management Company of Limited Liability Company TMS Group.

Thus, in 2005, TMS Group was established as a centralized base for the maintenance of surface oilfield equipment. A year later, it joined the oilfield services holding company TAGRAS, which provides services to companies in the oil and gas industry. The company’s first director was Renat Nugaybekov, now Deputy General Director for Logistics and Technical Development at Public Joint Stock Company Tatneft. He was tasked with integrating individual workshops into a unified team, creating an efficient management structure, and setting a high operational standard—all without interrupting production.

    Evolving to Meet Market Demands

Initially, TMS Group focused on comprehensive maintenance and repair of oilfield equipment, manufacturing of non-standard components, and in-field oil transfer station equipment servicing. Tatneft was the primary customer at the time. However, market demand and a desire to grow encouraged the company to explore new service areas and attract additional clients.

The service portfolio expanded to include deep-well pump rental and servicing, repair and diagnostics of drilling equipment, metal structure fabrication, pipe production, corrosion protection, and thermal insulation. The company also expanded organizationally, adding subsidiaries such as MechService-NPO, NKT-Service, NKT-Logistics, TMS-DrillingService, TMS-PipelineService, and TMS-NT. For strategic planning and operational efficiency, the TMS-Business-Service division was created.

The company implemented lean production practices and process management systems, reducing costs and improving labor productivity. A project management framework was adopted to quickly and efficiently master new service directions.

    Faster, Higher, Stronger

During its first decade, TMS Group built its internal structure, adopted management tools, fostered internal communication, and expanded its competencies. During its second decade, the company began expanding beyond the Republic of Tatarstan and growing its market presence across Russia and neighboring countries.

The company improved its production culture and industrial safety, shifted to proactive customer engagement, and refined its process management strategies.

In 2017, TMS Group established a Design and Engineering Center dedicated to product development. In 2018, the company began manufacturing specialized equipment for the aviation and automotive industries.

    Staying Ahead of the Market

As the market continues to evolve, so does the company. TMS Group aims not just to keep up but to stay ahead, anticipating future needs and building with foresight.

Today, the company offers a broad range of products and services to the fuel and energy sector across three core areas: machine building, pipeline products, and pipe servicing.

TMS Group’s annual production capacity exceeds one million units, including:

    • 2,000 wellhead assemblies

    • 400 pumpjacks

    • 2,000 casing heads

The machine-building sector manufactures and repairs pipeline and drilling equipment. The pipeline product division provides internal and external anti-corrosion protection. The pipe product division produces, inspects, and services tubing and casing.

TMS Group produces over 200,000 metric tons of tubular products annually, including:

    • 52,000 metric tons with corrosion-resistant coating

    • 70,000 metric tons of tubing

    • 50,000 metric tons of casing

The company employs over 900 highly qualified engineers and technicians. Its production facilities include over 300 machines of various types. The Design and Engineering Center collaborates with respected Russian research institutions such as Skolkovo, LUKOIL-Engineering, IT-Park Yakutia, Gazprom Neft Science and Technology Center, and Tatneft’s Central Technological Research Institute.

“Our customers are evolving—their expectations and approach to business change. We must not only meet those needs but anticipate them and offer more,” says Yarullin.

    Outpacing the Competition

In an uncertain global oil and gas market, oilfield services companies must seek competitive advantages. TMS Group achieves this by continuously expanding its product range, adopting new technologies, and digitizing production processes. These measures strengthen the company’s market presence and attract a growing customer base.

Today, more than 170 clients rely on TMS Group for the best combination of quality, price, and lead time.

“Price and deadlines are critical. Quality is assumed. We analyze every process, optimize logistics, and eliminate inefficiencies. That gives us a true market edge,” says Yarullin.

Key industry partners include Tatneft, Rosneft, LUKOIL, TMK, and members of the Neftekonsortsium Group. Outside Russia, the company is building relationships in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.

    People First

TMS Group values its employees. The company’s mission includes: “We value every employee and help them grow with the company.”

TMS Group meets staffing needs in two ways:

    1. Developing internal talent through training programs created with local universities.

    2. Attracting outside talent through strong employer branding, social benefits, and supportive leadership.

Mentorship and onboarding programs help new employees integrate and thrive.

“We want every new employee to feel welcomed, respected, and supported,” says Yarullin.

Veteran workers who helped establish the company continue to receive recognition and support, including holiday events, home visits, and assistance with daily needs.

“Our retirees are our golden reserve. They passed down the values and work ethic that our younger employees now continue,” he adds.

    Responsibility and Sustainability

Employee well-being and social responsibility are integral to the company’s ESG commitments, along with environmental sustainability. The company uses low-carbon technologies, supports local municipalities, and engages in environmental projects such as landscaping, water conservation, and community clean-up events.

“We live in this region. How we treat the environment and local infrastructure affects how we and our children will live,” concludes Yarullin.

TMS Group confidently looks ahead. Over 20 years, it has built a reputation as a reliable, responsible partner and ranks among the top performers in national industry ratings. Its quality and innovation are recognized by awards such as “100 Best Products of Russia” and “Best Products and Services of the Republic of Tatarstan.” With ambition and mastery, TMS Group continues to explore new horizons.
