  • Gas Production in Russia Fell by 11.4 Percent in January-September

    Gas production in Russia in January-September decreased by 11.4% compared to the same period last year – to 380 billion cubic meters, in September – increased by 1.5%, to 39.8 billion cubic meters, Rosstat reported.

    “39.8 billion cubic meters of combustible natural gas were produced, which is 1.5% more than in September 2022, and 1.4% more than in August 2023. In the nine months of 2023, 380 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which is 11.4% less than in January-September 2022,” the department said in a statement.

    According to the results of nine months, production of associated petroleum gas (APG) in Russia increased by 4.3%, to 78.8 billion cubic meters. In September, the annual figure increased by 8.7%, and in monthly terms it decreased by 2.7%.

    According to Rosstat, in 2022, Russia reduced natural gas production by 13.4%, to 573 billion cubic meters, and APG by 2%, to 99 billion cubic meters.

    Rosstat also informed that coal production in Russia in September decreased by 1.4% in annual terms, to 35 million tons, and in January-September increased by 0.9%, to 315 million tons.

    “In September 2023, 35 million tons of coal of various grades were produced, which is 1.4% less than in September 2022, but 2.7% more than in August 2023. In total, 315 million were produced in nine months of 2023 tons of coal. This is 0.9% more than in January-September 2022,” Rosstat said in a statement.

    In particular, the production of hard coal of all types (including anthracite, coking coal and other hard coal) in September amounted to 28 million tons, which is 1.7% more than in September 2022 and 1.9% higher than in August of this year. In total, 250 million tons were produced in January-September, which is 0.5% less than in nine months of last year.

    Anthracite production in September amounted to 2 million tons, which is 12.5% more than in September 2022 and 7.4% more than the month before. Anthracite production in January-September increased by 7.4% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 20.1 million tons.

    Coking coal production in September amounted to 8.4 million tons, which is 8.6% less in annual comparison, but 1.5% more than in August of this year. In general, in the first nine months, coking coal production decreased by 4.9% compared to the same period in 2022, amounting to 74.5 million tons.
