  • Gazprom Dobycha Irkutsk has Patented a Method for the Development of Hydrocarbon Fields

Gazprom Dobycha Irkutsk received a patent for the invention of a new method for the development of a hydrocarbon field, which ensures independence from external energy sources, as well as the mobility and flexibility of power supply for drilling rigs. In addition, the service life of the equipment is increased and the harmful emissions into the atmosphere are reduced.

The inventors have proposed to use natural raw gas to provide power to the drilling equipment, which, after drying and cleaning with the separation of mechanical impurities, water and condensate, is fed to a low-tonnage natural gas liquefaction plant. The resulting  liquefied natural gas  (LNG) is transported in a cryogenic tank by road to the drilling site, where it is used as fuel for a mobile gas power plant that generates electricity for drilling rigs.

With the help of a small-scale LNG plant and a mobile gas-fired power plant on the territory of the field, it is possible to provide the necessary electricity for drilling operations without the use of traditional diesel power plants or the construction of long stationary power lines and large power plants.

In addition, the LNG produced can be used as a  fuel  for various automotive vehicles, including construction and rescue vehicles, as well as to provide fuel for public utility needs.

This invention can be used in the arrangement of hydrocarbon fields remote from developed infrastructure, for example, in the Far North, when supplying power to facilities remote from power grids and main pipelines.
