  • Gazprom Nedra Conducted a Comprehensive Exercise With the Participation of the Arkticheskaya Jack-Up Rig

    On July 14, 2023, Gazprom Nedra conducted a comprehensive exercise in the waters of the Kola Bay to organize an emergency response that was associated with an oil and oil products spill during the construction of a prospecting and appraisal well on the Kara Sea shelf.
    This was announced on July 17 by the press service of Gazprom.

    Company statements:

    • the event took place within the boundaries of the seaport of Murmansk at the location of the jack-up floating drilling rig (jack-up drilling rig) Arkticheskaya;
    • a comprehensive exercise, in accordance with the current legislation, is organized by Gazprom Nedra before the offshore platform reaches the drilling site in the waters of the Kara Sea.

    The event was attended by:

    • representatives of Gazprom, Gazprom Nedra, Gazprom Shelfproekt,
    • Murmansk seaport administration,
    • Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources,
    • FGBU Maritime Rescue Service,
    • sea rescue and coordination port of Dixon,
    • Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

    The exercise was carried out with the help of the Piltun multifunctional rescue vessel and the support vessel Sapphire.

    The participants of the event worked out joint actions to localize and eliminate a simulated diesel fuel spill in the amount of 117 tons.
    The training maneuvers took place in the normal mode and included the deployment of oil-gathering equipment, the collection of water-oil-containing mixture and its transfer to the ship for subsequent transportation to a disposal point, and additional purification of the water area with a sorbent.

    The State Commission for the evaluation of the exercise recognized the organizational and technical resources provided as sufficient to eliminate such pollution.

    • the platform is designed for drilling up to 12 (there is a cantilever) exploration and production wells for oil and gas on the continental shelf of the seas to a depth of up to 6500 m, at a sea depth of 7-100 m;
    • characteristics of the jack-up rig:
      – displacement – 16.350 thousand tons,
      – design consists of:
      – 3 trihedral supports,
      – residential module in the bow, with a landing pad for a helicopter,
      – a drilling unit placed on a retractable console in the aft part of the unit;
      – dimensions:
      – hull length is 88 m,
      – width – 66 m,
      – side height – 9.7 m,
      – height with raised supports – 139 m.
