  • Gazprom Neft and Gazprom Burenie will Support the Creation of the First Russian Drilling Robot for Oil and Gas Wells

Gazprom Neft and Gazprom Burenie signed a memorandum of cooperation to create the first Russian robotic drilling complex. The digital drilling rig is planned to be used in the future for the construction of oil and gas wells in offshore and onshore fields.

During the X St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, the document was signed by Vadim Yakovlev, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Neft Management Board, and Damir Valeev, General Director of Gazprom Bureniya. The partners agreed on a long-term technological cooperation in the development and testing of innovative solutions for robotization of drilling processes. The created products will be used in the modernization of existing equipment, as well as in new drilling rigs.

The prototype of the robotic drilling complex was created as part of the Energotekhnokhab Petersburg project with the participation of Gazprom Neft, Uralmash NGO Holding, Yandex.Cloud and Bitrobotix.

The development of the drilling robot is aimed at reducing the time, capital and operating costs of hydrocarbon production. Digitization of drilling processes will also improve industrial safety by eliminating manual labor and minimizing human participation in mechanized operations.

The Memorandum of Cooperation also provides for the joint work of Gazprom Neft and Gazprom Bureniya in the production of technological products to improve the efficiency of oil and gas production.

Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Gazprom Neft Vadim Yakovlev and General Director of Gazprom Bureniya Damir Valeev
“We use Industry 4.0 tools at all stages of production – from prospecting and building infrastructure to operating fields. The creation of a Russian robotic complex for drilling will not only significantly reduce the period of such an expensive operation as well construction, but also increase the safety of the work, which is one of our key priorities. Today, digitalization and automation of exploration and production processes is the key to complex assets and an important tool for managing the profitability of oil and gas projects. Therefore, we are interested in working together with partners to create new effective solutions “
