Gazprom Neft: Developing an Innovation Center for Researching Unconventional and Hard-to-Recover Reserves in Yugra
Gazpromneft – Technological Partnerships opened new laboratories at the Core Research Center in Khanty-Mansiysk. The project, with a total investment of 1.3 billion rubles, will create the most modern site in Russia for studying hard oil rock samples and accelerate the development of technologies for developing the Bazhenov formation.
The new laboratories carry out high-quality core preparation for further study and a complex of specialized studies. Including – 3D-photography and tomography, estimation of permeability, acoustic and magnetic properties, gamma-ray logging of rocks and other specialized procedures. In 2020, the Core Research Center analyzed 1,000 meters of core material for Gazprom Neft and other companies in the industry.
Today, the Core Research Center (CEC) has 6 high-tech laboratories – studying the properties of reservoir fluids, geochemistry, lithology, petrophysics, sample preparation and profile research. In 2021, it is planned to open three more – geomechanics, hydraulic fracturing and proppants, as well as thermodynamic studies. The CEC will house scanners, spectrometers, lithoscanners, tomographs – more than 80 pieces of modern equipment in total. It will allow not only to collect comprehensive information on the structure and properties of hard-to-recover rocks, but also to increase the accuracy of measurements, on which the quality of constructing geological, petrophysical and seismic models of the studied deposits depends.
Gazprom Neft is developing the Core Research Center with the participation of the V.I. V.I.Shpilman and with the support of the KhMAO Government. The first CEC laboratories started working in 2018. The creation of the CEC in Khanty-Mansiysk is associated with a high concentration of unconventional hydrocarbon reserves in the region and provides an opportunity for expertise in the immediate vicinity of the fields.
