Gazprom Neft Discovered a New Field in the Orenburg Region
Gazprom Neft discovered a new field in the Tashlinsky District of the Orenburg Region: while drilling a prospecting and appraisal well in the Solnechny licensed area, the company received a free flow of oil with a flow rate of over 490 m3 per day. According to geologists, after completion of the well construction, the flow rate may increase significantly.
Geological reserves of the deposit amount to 53 million tons of oil equivalent. Oil from the Solnechny area has an unusual bright orange color, belongs to light grades in terms of its properties and does not contain impurities. In the future, the new asset will become part of Gazprom Neft’s promising production center in the Volga-Ural region.
The depth of the well was 5.8 km, a record for Gazprom Neft. The results of drilling have confirmed the potential of Solnechnoye and neighboring areas, as well as the prospects of exploration work that Gazpromneft-Geo is currently conducting in the southwest of the Orenburg Region. To prepare a new resource base by 2030, the company plans to conduct 3D seismic surveys in the region and drill 15 new exploration wells.
“For the Volga-Ural oil and gas province, which is considered a well-studied region, a discovery of this magnitude is a major success. The new asset and neighboring areas will become the basis for the long-term development of our company in the Orenburg region, which remains one of the significant oil production centers of Gazprom Neft. – Vadim Yakovlev, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board, Gazprom Neft
“The new discovery was made as a result of large-scale and complex work on the study of sites in the south-west of the Orenburg region. For 2 years since the start of the project, we have carried out 3D seismic surveys on an area of over 1.6 thousand square meters. km, summarized and analyzed huge arrays of geological information. The discovery at the Solnechny license area was the largest in the region in recent years and confirmed our hypothesis about the prospects of the objects under study. Completion of exploration will help us form a plan for the development of these assets and begin their full-scale development in the coming years.” – Yuri Masalkin, Director for Geological Exploration and Development of the Resource Base, Gazprom Neft
