Gazprom Neft Establish the Bazhen Center in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District

Gazprom Neft created the Technological Center Bazhen LLC in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. The portfolio of assets of the new legal entity will be formed from licensed sites on the balance sheet of Gazpromneft-Khantos, and have good prospects of working with the reserves of the Bazhenov horizon.
The Bazhenov cluster will be the Palyanovskaya area of the Krasnoleninskoye field, five sections of the Nyalin Group and three sections of the Salym field.
The search for methods for developing hard-to-recover oil in Russia is one of Gazprom Neft’s strategic priorities. The project to develop a complex of domestic technologies for efficient development of the Bazhenov suite, the implementation of which was initiated by the company, was granted national status in May 2017.
The project has more than 20 partner-participants. In its framework, a pool of oil companies, research and service organizations, manufacturers of industrial equipment, interested in solving the problem, is formed. Gazprom Neft plans to invest about 7.5 billion rubles in the Bazhen project, hoping to start commercial production of Bazhenov oil already in 2025.
The project can give 16,000 additional jobs in the region. The economic effect for the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug for 6 years will be 27 billion rubles, and for the domestic oil and gas equipment and technology market – 300 billion rubles. The annual production of Bazhenov oil by 2025 may reach 10 million tons. At the same time, by the given date, 1000 wells should be drilled at the bazhen with current 5 per year.
“Our final strategic objective is to maximize the cost of oil production from Bazhen. A more short-term tactical goal is to find the best technical solutions, “said Vadim Yakovlev, First Deputy General Director of Gazprom Neft.
The Bazhenov suite is a group of oil-rock rocks, discovered on the territory of about 1 million square meters. km in Western Siberia. The suite lies at a depth of 2-3 km and has a small thickness. The volume of geological reserves of hydrocarbons in the Bazhenov suite can reach 18-60 billion tons. According to optimistic estimates, the resources of Bazhenov oil may amount to 100-170 billion tons. Effective technology for its extraction does not yet exist.
In October 2017, Inform-Devon reported that Gazprom Neft and MIPT had established the Center for Scientific and Technical Support of the EMG. Parties will increase the profitability of extraction of bazhena reserves.
In March of the same year, at a meeting of the public authorities of the district of PJSC Gazprom Neft, it was announced that a technology center for the development of an efficient technology for the extraction of hydrocarbons from the Bazhenov suite would be established on the territory of the Palyanovka section.
