Gazprom Neft Expands Promising Exploration Cluster in Southern Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug
Gazprom Neft has obtained a license for geological exploration of the Tursky subsoil block located in the Purovsky District of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The license has been issued for a period of 5 years.
The area of the block is 337 square kilometers. In the future, the new asset, with a potential of 10 million tonnes of oil, will become part of Gazprom Neft’s production cluster, which includes the Novy, Sugmutsky, Vostochno-Pyagutinsky, and Krainy blocks.
The Tursky block area remains underexplored; however, its proximity to the infrastructure of the company’s existing fields will accelerate the implementation of exploration activities. The nearest field to Tursky — Novoye, where production has been underway since 2024 — has a similar geological structure. Both licensed blocks are planned to undergo 3D seismic surveys, and the data obtained will help shape the program for further development of the assets.
“Expanding our license portfolio in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is an important step toward strengthening our resource base in one of the key regions for Gazprom Neft. Thanks to the implementation of modern technologies and digital solutions, we have significantly improved the efficiency and accuracy of 3D seismic surveys, which will help identify new oil and gas accumulations and develop a program for expanding the production cluster.”
Yury Masalkin, Director of Exploration, Gazprom Neft
“The exploration of the Tursky block will allow us to expand our presence in the southern part of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Several decades ago, our predecessors conducted exploration in these territories: according to available information, the resource base may include Achimov, Jurassic, and Cretaceous formations. After completing high-quality exploration work, we will be able to develop a detailed program for the new production cluster in southern Yamal.”
Ivan Petrov, General Director of Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz
