Gazprom Neft Has Launched Infrastructure for Hydrocarbon Production at the 3A Section of the Urengoyskoye field
Gazprom Neft has commissioned infrastructure for industrial hydrocarbon production in section 3A of the Achimov deposits of the Urengoyskoye field in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The work of the production complex was launched by the Chairman of the Board of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, and the Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Neft, Alexander Dyukov.
The Urengoyskoye field of Gazprom PJSC in the Nadym-Pur-Taz region of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is one of the largest in the world in terms of initial hydrocarbon reserves. Gazprom Neft, within the framework of a long-term risk operator agreement with the license holder – Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy LLC, is developing the Achimov deposits of section 3A. The new production complex will provide an annual supply of up to 5 billion m³ of gas and 1.5 million tons of condensate.
The Achimov deposits are located at a depth of about 3.4-3.8 km and have a more complex geological structure compared to the overlying gas condensate deposits. The production of Achimov hydrocarbons is also complicated by abnormally high reservoir pressure, heterogeneous structure and low permeability of rocks.
To work on the project, Gazprom Neft created a three-dimensional geological model. With its help, more than 100 site development scenarios were calculated and the optimal option was selected. To extract the Achimov reserves, technologies are used for drilling wells with an industry-record length of horizontal sections and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing.
When creating the infrastructure, Russian block-modular equipment was used, which was delivered to section 3A of the field in maximum readiness. This reduced the time required for field development. Thanks to advanced approaches, the period from choosing a development concept to launching the project was only 3 years.
The Gazprom Neft infrastructure complex includes over 100 production and auxiliary facilities for the reception, preparation and shipment of hydrocarbons. Key production facilities are a gas pre-treatment unit and a condensate stabilization unit. With their help, the company supplies natural gas from section 3A, as well as stable gas condensate and wide fractions of light hydrocarbons, which are the basis for the production of gasoline, kerosene, oils and other petroleum products.
“Working with deep deposits allows us to obtain additional volumes of hydrocarbons. This is natural gas for supply to consumers in Russia. These are liquid hydrocarbons, which are valuable raw materials for petrochemicals and oil refining. Thanks to such high-tech projects as section 3A of the Urengoy field, we, together with you, are fulfilling our task of responsible and rational development of the resources of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. And most importantly, we ensure the country’s energy security and its technological sovereignty,” Alexey Miller said.
