  • Gazprom Neft: Successfully Tests Off-Road Cargo Vehicles at Vostochnaya Messoyakha

Gazprom Neft has tested Sherp 10 all-terrain vehicles in the off-road conditions of the Far North. Testing of specialized equipment took place in the tundra near the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye oil field.

The purpose of the tests is to test the performance of all-terrain vehicles in the summer season, when the delivery of goods to remote fields is complicated by obstacles such as ice-free rivers, channels and swamps.

All-terrain vehicles amphibious successfully covered the distance of 300 km from the village of Tazovsky to the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye field and back with three tons of cargo. Typically, vehicles enter this route only from December to May, during the period of operation of the temporary winter road – “winter road”. All-terrain vehicles have demonstrated high technical capabilities in overcoming water obstacles and steep climbs at an angle of up to 40 °.

The introduction of specialized equipment into the Gazprom Neft logistics system will allow the company to increase the economic efficiency of supplying remote fields in the summer season. Now air transport is used for this purpose. The carrying capacity of the Sherpa 10 is comparable to that of the MI-8T helicopter, one of the most frequently used in the Arctic. In addition, all-terrain vehicles will enable Gazprom Neft to transport cargo in non-flying weather. Sherp 10 may replenish the company’s vehicle fleet this year.

Thanks to the ultra-low pressure tires, the Sherpas can move on the moss cover of the tundra, having a minimal impact on the ground and at the same time maintaining exceptional maneuverability.

“The Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye field is one of the most inaccessible oil fields in Russia. The search for new solutions for its life support is among the priority tasks. The use of all-terrain vehicles will make it possible to create a summer alternative to the most important transport artery – the winter road connecting the autonomous oil field with the mainland. A variety of logistics solutions will eliminate the seasonality factor in the formation of the supply cycle of the necessary resources for the efficient and safe operation of the Messoyakhskaya group of fields. “

“We strive to become a logistics operator providing all-season cargo delivery to remote fields in Siberia and the Arctic so that our subsidiaries and partners can quickly implement projects, build infrastructure for exploration and production, and continuously upgrade existing facilities. To do this, we test heavy cargo drones, as well as introduce advanced solutions in the field of manned vehicles. “
