Gazprom Neft Volunteers and Residents of Yamal Collected More Than 625 Tons of Garbage on the Peninsula
Gazprom Neft summed up the results of its environmental project “Clean Environment” to clean up Yamal from historically accumulated and household waste. From April to September, more than 4.5 thousand volunteers – company employees, representatives of the public environmental organization “Green Arctic”, local residents – collected more than 625 tons of garbage in different areas of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug on an area of over 460 hectares, including coastal zones.
Dozens of actions of the “Clean Environment” project included volunteer trips to clean up remote northern territories, cleanup days to eliminate spontaneous landfills and household waste in populated areas, and educational master classes for children and adults. Nine Gazprom Neft enterprises took part in the company’s project, which is being implemented as part of the “Native Towns” social investment program.
For partner events, Gazprom Neft provided transport and equipment for loading and removing waste. Green Arctic volunteers, with the support of Gazprom Neft, conducted three expeditions to clean up historically accumulated garbage in the vicinity of the village of Cape Kamenny, Cape Marre-Sale and the village of Polyarny. 2,200 rusty barrels were collected, 13 abandoned buildings were dismantled, and 20 hectares of the coastline of the Ob and Baydaratskaya bays of the Kara Sea were cleaned.
