  • In Kazakhstan Oil Production Returned to Normal after Floods

The country’s Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliev noted that about 500 wells were flooded.

Oil production in Kazakhstan has returned to normal after large-scale floods. Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliev told reporters about this.

“There was a slight decrease in oil production, about 500 wells were flooded. This mainly affected the Aktobe region. But now the water is receding, almost all the measures that were taken in advance have shown their effectiveness. We are working as usual,” Satkaliev said, responding to TASS question about how floods affected oil production in Kazakhstan.

As the minister noted, there are no flooded oil wells in the country.

On April 18, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported that due to the flood situation, some oil-producing enterprises in the Aktobe and Atyrau regions suspended the operation of more than 630 wells. Specialists carried out pumping out water, backfilling with soil, de-energizing and sealing wells.

Due to the floods that began in March, a local emergency was declared in ten regions of Kazakhstan. During this period, rescuers in total evacuated more than 119 thousand people.
