Iran and Gazprom Continue Consultations on Field Development
Russian companies expressed interest in the Iranian South Pars field, NIOC and Gazprom continued consultations on an agreement on the development of oil and gas fields in the country. Russian Ambassador to Iran Alexei Dedov told RIA Novosti about this.
The diplomat noted that at the moment the Russian holding and the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) are working on determining the economic assessment of the prospects for Gazprom’s participation in oil and gas projects in Iran.
“In December 2022, a delegation of the Gazprom Group visited Iran, following which the parties agreed to continue consultations. Negotiations are underway, and we look forward to reaching mutually beneficial agreements in this area,” he said.
According to Dedov, the interest of other domestic companies in Iran’s energy resources has increased significantly, including in the South Pars field.
The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and Gazprom signed a memorandum in July 2022, which provides for assistance in the development of the Kish and North Pars gas fields, six oil fields, as well as in maintaining pressure at the South Pars field. In addition, the document covers exchange operations with natural gas and petroleum products, the implementation of LNG projects, and the construction of export gas pipelines. Iran’s Shana agency said the size of a potential deal between the companies is $40 billion.
