Israel Orders Chevron to Close Tamar Offshore Gas Field
Israel’s Energy Ministry has instructed Chevron to close the Tamar offshore natural gas field off the country’s northern coast, a company spokesman told Reuters.
“The Israeli Ministry of Energy has instructed Chevron Mediterranean Limited to cease production at the Tamar field,” the agency quoted a representative as saying. However, the material does not indicate whether this closure is temporary, nor does it specify the reasons for this decision.
The Tamar gas field was discovered in January 2009. The project partners are Chevron Mediterranean Limited (25%), Isramco (28.75%), Tamar Petroleum (16.75%), Mubadala Energy (11%), Tamar Investment 2 (11%), Dor Gas (4%) and Everest (3.5%). The reservoir is located 90 kilometers west of Haifa, at a depth of 5 thousand meters below sea level and covers an area of 100 square kilometers. Six production wells at the field produce volumes of natural gas from 7.1 to 8.5 million cubic meters per day each.
Chevron is the second largest oil and gas company in the United States. The corporation operates in more than 180 countries.
