  • The IX Congress “Oil and Gas Horizons 2017” took place at Gubkin University

    85 representatives of 34 universities from 23 countries participated from the 28th to the 30th of November in the 9th International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress “Oil and Gas Horizons” organized by the Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter.

    The Silver sponsors of the Congress were Schlumberger and Shell, the exclusive sponsor was Weatherford. Lukoil, Halliburton, «Gubkinskiy Universalniy Magazin” and Colibry were the partners of the Congress. Information support to the event was provided by such publishers as Oil&Gas Journal Russia, “Nedra”, Offshore Russia, Oil&Gas Journal Eurasia, Sphere Oil and Gas, PRO-ARCTIC, OilGASCom, Poisk News, Young Petro, TheWayAhead, ECHO and also such student organizations as GUtv and Kerosin magazine.

    The Vice-Rector for Academic Work Vladimir Koshelev, the Vice-President for Marketing in Schlumberger Artem Karapetov, the Personnel Learning and Development in Russia and Central Asia Manager in Weatherford Anna Demeshkina, the SPE Russia and Caspian Regional Director Aizhana Jussupbekova, the president of SPE Moscow Section Anton Ablaev, assuming office of the Manager of young specialists of SPE International Committee Vlada Streletskaya and the Chief Organizer of the Congress Danil Remezov gave opening speeches at the grand opening ceremony of the Congress.

    After the Ceremony Plenary Session took place during which issues on the topic “Ecological Footprint from Energy Sector. Step into the Future » were discussed. The professor of Gubkin University Vasiliy Bogoyavlenskiy, the Director of the Quality, Ecology, Labor Protection in Russia and Central Asia Department in Weatherford Alexander Polyakov, Manager of the Artic oil and gas projects of Gubkin University Alexey Bezukh, postgraduate students of RWTH Aachen University Yoshka Rot and Harry Gaus made presentations. After it the SPE Russia and Caspian Regional Director Aizhana Jussupbekova carried out a training on developing personal characteristics “Effective presentations. Lessons learnt”.

    The main aim of the students who had arrived from different countries was to present their scientific reports and to exchange knowledge and experience with each other. The competition of students and postgraduate students was held in such areas:

    • Geology and geophysics
    • Well drilling and equipping
    • Oil and gas field development
    • Oil and gas chemistry
    • Industrial safety and environmental security
    • Economics and management in oil and gas industry

    There were also special sections:

    • Competition of postgraduate students works
    • Competition of young specialists works

    The 2nd day of the Congress began with the Presentation of poster reports where the participants presented to the judges their projects. A regional Round Table was carried out during which such problems as the work and developments of the Chapters in the region were solved. Moreover, an International Round Table was conducted at which such project as Summer Schools, SPE Connect (social net for SPE Members) and PetroStage (Online-platfrom for publishing information about events held by all SPE Student Chapters all over the world).

    Within the Congress the presentation of Weatherford company took place where Anna Demeshkina, the Personnel Learning and Development in Russia and Central Asia Manager in Weatherford, told about the company activity and its personnel development. After the presentation the participants went on a tour of the university objects. At the same time an intellectual game PetroOlympic Games was conducted: 30 participants formed in 6 teams checked their knowledge in the oil and gas sector.

    The 2nd day of the Congress finished with the Awarding Ceremony on which the winners of technical sessions and the winning teams in the game PetroOlympic Games received certificates and presents. At the close of the Ceremony the Gubkin Talks Conference was carried out where the participants presented their motivational speeches.

    On the last day of the Congress the participants visited such companies as Schlumberger, Repsol, Salym Petroleum, Gazprom Transgaz Moskva, Moscow Factory of Thermal Automatics. Furthermore, a cultural program was conducted where the participants had acquaintance with the main sights of the capital and visited the Tretyakov gallery and the Moscow planetarium.
